Motorcycle brake in period, Secrets to a long lasting engine.
Introduction: I have definitely heard one thing from old riders: when we bought a new bike and some riders were driving that bike very slowly, then that bike had been tuned for slow riding, meaning it would run a little slowly; it would not be able to deliver that high performance. Similarly, if someone has driven it very aggressively and has braked it very aggressively in the first 1000-1200 km, then that bike will deliver a little more performance; when you ride it, its engine will run a little more free and will run a little better. People used to say this; now, to what extent this is true and to what extent it is false, we do not know, but today we are going to talk about the break-in-period.
In today's article, we will talk about the brakes of the bike for the first 1000 km, i.e., during the period when you buy a bike, the salesman will tell you to drive slowly. The user manual of the bike states that the bike should be driven slowly for the first 1000 km. How to drive slowly, and if you drive fast, then what damage can happen due to it? We are going to cover all these things in this article.
Brake in period: The practice of brakes in this period is very old because earlier, when the parts were made, the equipment was not that good. The people who made the parts with us did not have precision in the equipment. Because there was no precision in the parts, we had to run the engine and temper it a bit; we had to use it a little so that the piston rings of the engine get set, the bearings get set a little in the crank; after that, gradually the engine would get set, and after that, it would run properly. In the earlier times, we had to do more of these things because the accuracy quality was not there in the precision parts; now the quality has come. It has come very well, and the time has moved ahead a lot; all these were old things.
So now the quality and accuracy in the parts have improved much more; the brands have better testing equipment, so the brands generally take the engine out of the manufacturing plant only after testing it. Now, why do they give brakes in this period even today? they are given even today for this reason so that the risk remains free.If brakes are not given in this period, suppose they will say that you should run the engine right from the beginning, and if something happens to the engine, then who will violate the warranty? People buying a new bike will get very angry that their new bike got damaged, though the chances of this are very low, but in case it gets damaged, then many warranty claims will reach the company. That is why the company says that initially you should drive the bike with some ease for up to 1000 km; drive it with love and affection.
I will tell you how to ride it:
If you have bought a new bike, then the first thing everyone must have told you is that you may have to drive the bike slowly. You may have driven the bike aggressively. You may have even taken the engine to the red line, but if that did not do anything, then it was no big deal. But if you keep the full throttle for a long time and are taking the engine to the red line, then that is called engine abuse. You should not do that. That may increase the engine's wear and tear extended.
Drive at low speed:
You have to drive at low speed all the time; the speed should not exceed 40, 50, or 60; there is nothing like that; you can keep the speed higher; you can also increase the RPMs of the engine, but the engine should not be taken to the red line, meaning you should not do the thing which gives engine cutoff; the engine should not be reached till the first 500 km. Even if it is 1000 km, then I would say that you can do it after 500 km in 500 km, and in these cases, if you have done this even twice, you have redlined the engine for 2, 3 or 4 seconds and have done the full test of gear changes in first gear. How much is it going? Many people do it in first and second gear; this thing is not a problem; it is a common thing. But if you have done it too much, you have done testing for too long, and you are running all the time, then that thing has come up in aggressive braking. That means if you are braking aggressively, the engine will definitely get tuned for it, good performance will be delivered, piston rings will also be set well, and there will be no issue. Now if you have done aggressive braking, which it is written in the manual that you should not do, and you have done that thing, then what can be the solution for it? Let's see.
Bike's service was to be done at 1000 km:
So suppose your bike's service was to be done at 1000 km, and the first oil change was to be done at 1000 km; then you should get the first oil change done at 800 km only. That would be a better option because when you did aggressive braking, what happened there was that metal savings came out from inside the engine, and whenever you change the oil for the first time, see that there are metal savings inside the oil or inside the oil strainer, and if there is a magnetic strainer, its filter will be there. Then you will see metal savings in the oil filter. Many engines are aluminium engines, so they do not attract magnets, so they get mixed with the oil and get drained, so these metal shavings should not circulate in the engine with the oil and should not damage other parts like the piston. If it does not come between the rings and cylinder walls, then it is better to drain the oil quickly.
Many people stop the bike, then they use brakes a lot:
If you have bought a new bike, then what many people do is that if they have to stop the bike, then they use the brakes a lot on the bike to slow it down, which is a normal thing; brakes are there for that reason only, but you also have to use a little bit of engine braking in it. That means you should not keep the clutch pressed, do not keep the engine at idle; engine braking also has to happen in it. If engine braking will continue, then the piston rings will be set in a better way, and the compression will be very forceful in the engine.
The engine run constant rpm:
The engine should not be run at constant rpm, that is, you are running the engine at the same rpm for a long time, suppose you are running at 5000 rpm, 60 speed and the same speed, then you do not have to do these things, the rpm should vary a little.
Should you take short rides on a motorcycle:
The next tip is that you should not do short rides with the engine on. Short rides means you went from here to buy vegetables and came back when the engine has not heated up properly, then there you say a little like the brakes are a little less, although they also do this, people must be doing it commonly in daily compressor motorcycles but still this thing has to be avoided, when you ride, the engine should heat up properly.
Overheating the engine:
The next thing that came to mind from heat is that the engine should not be allowed to overheat. You should not do anything to the engine, which may overheat, even if you are overloading and roaming around without any load or even if you are driving very fast on the highway. The engine may overheat. The engine should not be allowed to overheat because in many bikes the engine oil comes filled from the factory. In many bikes, break-in oil is also filled. Break-in oils are there in high-performance bikes, which would be written specifically in the user manual that this brake came after putting in oil. In this, you cannot do all these things on those oils, but still I would say that there are no new things. Do not do all these things with the engine, which will cause the engine to overheat. Overheating is a big enemy of the engine. Once you put the engine on the red line, it will not cause much harm, but overheating can cause problems in the engine.
Drove your new bike too fast:
So if you still dare to drive your new bike too fast, then there won't be any problem from that. If you feel that you have driven too fast or very aggressively, then get the engine oil changed soon. This is the best tip, and if you use good engine oil, then there will be no problems in the engine. In the coming time, get it done during the servicing time. And the most potent tip is for those people who take the bikes a little lightly or take this brake period lightly. If the company has said that the service will be done after 1000 km, then get it done after 1000 km only. The engine will be much better, and the brakes will be in a much better way.
Note: I hope that these were important tips that I have given you and your fear is over now and if those who are not afraid then they should understand that brothers, drive the engine a little slowly in the first 1000km, if you cross the red line 2-4 times then there will be no issue but if you are driving the red line throughout the day then that can create an issue in the engine although engines do not get damaged so easily, the entire engine does not come out of the factory as if you have killed your first self, nothing like this happens, those are not at all newly manufactured engines, but somewhere or the other they are run and tested in the factory, so guys I hope this The article must have been helpful for you, if you liked it then please like and comment.
